Meet Polaris
We just put a deposit on a brand-new Lagoon 47 catamaran — and we've named her Polaris. Here's how we got here, and what comes next.

It's official: we are buying a boat. And we've named her Polaris.
Not just any boat — a brand new Lagoon 47 catamaran, scheduled for delivery next summer. We're going to live aboard her part-time, charter her the rest of the year through a professional management company, and document the entire journey so you can come along for the ride.
Why Polaris?
Polaris is the North Star — the one fixed point sailors have used to find their way home for thousands of years. It felt right for a boat that's going to anchor a lot of family memories, and (we hope) help a lot of charter guests find their own version of "home" on the water for a week at a time.
Why a catamaran?
After years of sailing monohulls, we wanted:
- Space for family and guests without anyone tripping over each other
- Stability at anchor (no more rolling at 3am)
- Shallow draft so we can tuck into the good anchorages
- Two engines for easier docking and redundancy offshore
The Lagoon 47 hits the sweet spot for us: big enough to charter comfortably, small enough that the two of us can handle her short-handed.
What's coming
Over the next year you'll see posts about:
- The build process and factory visits
- Outfitting decisions (solar, lithium, watermaker, electronics)
- Delivery and the shake-down passage
- First charter season
